Training & Support

Mentoring is widely seen today as a critical resource for entrepreneurs, but building an effective and sustainable mentoring program — in particular with volunteer mentors — requires a disciplined approach.

The Immersion Training Program, a 2 ½ day course delivered at MIT, is designed to fully prepare your leadership team to start and operate a mentoring program based on the MIT VMS Model:

  • Curriculum: Comprehensive curriculum addressing topics that include the Guiding Principles (our code of ethics); the Team Mentoring methodology; mentor selection, training and retention; entrepreneur/venture eligibility, selection and onboarding; program evaluation and metrics; staffing and operational requirements.
  • Experiential Learning: Participation in core MIT VMS activities and interactions with mentors, mentees and program management, to experience first-hand how MIT VMS operates.
  • Strategy Discussion: Focus on your organization’s specific context to help identify and address strategic issues for the successful implementation of the MIT VMS Model.
License

MIT provides a non-exclusive license for use of the MIT VMS methodology and materials in the implementation of your internal mentoring program.

Additional Programs

Optional programs that provide valuable further assistance as you establish and scale your mentoring program, including  Mentor Training and Stakeholder Program.

Support

Ongoing support through various resources and initiatives, including office hours, check-in calls, annual program status survey, newsletters, and connections into the community of organizations adopting the MIT VMS Model.

“There is no need to learn mentorship by trial and error. Embracing the VMS Model will save any institution a significant amount of time and money.”
